Dearest mom and dad,
Mirkul 12th – 1489
Dearest mom and dad,
It’s been a while since last I wrote, even though I know that part hardly matters. I’ve been a little busy with new friends. You see, I made these friends at the funeral of Adoban (I already told you about him, he was the dwarf that was helping me figure stuff out) and we kind of fought of evil creatures. I forgot the details on most of the things really. Mostly we just ended up searching his house which was huge and full of all sorts of secrets including mirrors that are actually portals and a house filled with ghouls and shadows and other creepy monsters. I’m safe, obviously, otherwise I couldn’t really write an update and all. I’d write everything but I’m a little short on time. I’m mostly just going to start off with the most recent stuff and enter the rest of it if I find enough spare time.
During this exploration we encountered some interesting item. One of them was like a handkerchief that was magical, pitch black and very dangerous. It looked like a bit of a fashion item but it was clearly not for wearing. I might accidentally have set free a devil like creature but the other option was dying and that just wasn’t really a great idea. Plus, it’s not like I sold my soul or anything. She didn’t ask for that and since I couldn’t really see a face it didn’t seem like all that bad of a thing at the time. After I got back from the pocket dimension with the evils (there were two) we explored and found a statue holding an orb. The orb was clearly magical but after my encounter with the cloth (that I wasn’t carrying anymore for the record) I didn’t really dare to touch it. Bit too worried I’d get myself almost killed and in trouble twice in a day. I asked Cinder the magic user what would happen if we put the black cloth on the orb (I think it alone might have been able to tell either the future or the weather). I maybe shouldn’t have said it. Our Gnome Rogue took it as a suggestion rather than a question and tossed it over. The monk and warlocked attempted to stop them but that didn’t exactly… work.
So the things exploded and the three of them were sucked to the astral plane. One of them escaped that on her own (I have no clue how she managed that and I’m not sure I should be asking?) and the rogue was brought back by the lady that saved me from the black cloth of doom. The rest of the party didn’t seem to happy about bringing him back but I couldn’t just leave him. I felt kind of guilty about giving him the idea and everything. Plus, he was nice and the only one that didn’t seem to mind my age in the adventures. The third was brought back with a little help from a secret spy organisation that the bard is a part of. She came back second though. It has put him (and by extension us) in quite a bit of debt though so we’re going to have to make a lot of money in order to pay that off again. Or some really bad dangerous missions that nobody else wants to get their hands dirty on.
With everybody back we decided to rest up with the remainder of the day and leave the rest of the mansion for the morning. That is when my buddy the rogue rogue’d off and apparently he’s now looking for redemption and trying to fix things somewhere? Including the contract that he kind of signed to the lady that offered me to help bring him back. I still feel silly for not asking the right questions to see that one coming. Lesson learned. A paladin joined up with us though, which was very nice. It meant we could go back with less worries to finalise our exploration of the mansion.
So we explored the very last regions of the mansion where they had all the cool stuff. They being the previous owners before Adoban, evil dark magic types. Not cool people but such cool stuff, I’m not even joking! They (the new friends) allowed me to keep the paint brush at least at the very very end of all the mess. Due to some earlier situation where I asked a question out of curiosity (I just wanted to know, how was I supposed to know that a gnome I met less than a week ago would take it as a suggestion? I mean, I obviously did not know him well enough to bring him back from the astral plane but I did know him well enough to predict his exact behaviour? Makes sense right? Sorry, slight frustration).
Anyway, as I was trying to tell, the stuff they had, I wasn’t allowed to touch anything. Some of the stuff I did not want to touch at all (very yucky) but things like the paint brush or the scroll that most likely had a spell on it, no touching, not even to give it to another person. Still at the end of the fights when all the bad guys were gone, everybody else was allowed to touch and take whatever they wanted. I know I’m young and curious in nature and that sometimes leads to bad choices but I think this one was overkill. Still, the fight? They can’t take that away from me retroactively, which helps.
I’m still practising my skills as a druid and I’m getting better with my beastshaping training almost daily. I think you’d be proud of my progress! The last room in the mansion’s alternate dimension dungeon was in the sewers. Very close to a bunch of cells and a lot of creepy and/or interesting objects (like chopped up hands and the likes for creepy). It was flooded like something or somebody blew a hole in the wall but regretted it and then decided to place bars to keep people from getting it. It didn’t stop the stinky water, obviously. Luckily there was high and dry ground around so not all of us had to get our feet (or most of our bodies for the smaller folk) drenched in sewer gunk to fight the shadows that appeared. I never really realised that shadows could attack? There was one shadow that was much stronger and I actually think that might have been a demon. I’m pretty sure really but I’m not an expert or anything. They attacked rather viciously and since one of my new friends (Cinder) was separated and dragged off by a set of ghouls (it was horrifying) we were lacking in firepower (literally since he’s a magic user that can throw around fire and all that) so it took a while to bring all the shadows down. Some of my new friends got badly injured but luckily we have a cleric and a paladin around to help us out now. It makes quite the difference.
When the fight was over I managed to find Cinder and our wonderful cleric got him back on his feet. The rest of the group searched the murky waters in the chamber (actually, now that I think of it, it might have been a temple. There was an altar and everything? I was a little distracted by all the shadow things) and I think they found quite a few interesting items. On the downside, those belonged to people that are probably dead now. It’s a little sad.
Also, Adoban discovered that some slavers are probably trying to find and enslave me? I’m not too sure about the details, I just hope it’s not Them. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried but my new friends said they were going to try and help me out. I think I’m safe for now, although it scares me that Norb left without even a note or a letter to say goodbye. It doesn’t seem like him. I think that it’s possible that They scared him off. I’m doing my best to stay hidden but I have to get more powerful so that I can keep myself safe. Maybe now that there are others around me I won’t stand out that much. One of the ladies in the group (Bella) tends to pretend I’m her daughter in order to avoid concerns about my place in the group from outsiders. Maybe it’ll throw Them off the scent. I certainly hope so.
Hope to see you soon!
